My "Kitchen"

How do I put this tastefully....


I cook in our bathroom. 


Our "kitchen" developed slowly. First it began with a hot water boiler and a rice cooker and as time passed and it looked like we were staying put, cheap rent in a bad economy, yes please, I started to acquire all sorts of appliances, cooking tools and shelving. Each one testing the limits of a kitchen-less apartment. The possibilities, I am discovering, are endless.


There are some limits however. For example, if I turn on the hairdryer and my husband Chris turns on the hot water boiler we blow a fuse, swear and reset all the clocks. If Chris decides the toilet is actually a garbage disposal and then discovers it's not (repeatedly) there is more swearing. And if I get a little too carried away at the grocery store and cannot quite fit everything into the fridge there is lots of exacerbated slamming of the refrigerator door.


There was also the time I cooked a three pound lamb shoulder in a three pound glass casserole dish with about another pound of boiling white wine and herbs, in my toaster oven, and as I removed this atomic meal with hot pink silicone pot holders, it occurred to me that I was not wearing any shoes and that the floor below my feet was tile. 

There was also the time I noticed flashes from a window across the street and realized someone was photographing me cooking in my "kitchen". More swearing from Chris.

Never a dull moment at our house.
